The People behind SCYC

In early 2014, SCYC adopted a new board, charter and many new goals. We are looking forward to finding new and creative ways to help needy families in our community.

Meet our Executives:

micheleMichele S Cumberland, President, is a Managing Member at Mid-Atlantic Commercial Law Group PLLC. She is a graduate of the College of William &  Mary, and has a J.D. from Dickinson School of Law. Michele’s prior charitable  experience includes: Board Member, American Red Cross, Alexandria Chapter (2009-2010); Gala Chairman, American Red Cross, Alexandria Chapter (2009); Auction Chairman, American Red Cross, Alexandria Chapter (2008).

timTimothy Long, Vice President, owns a Management Consulting Business, Belmar Innovations LLC, in Washington DC. He is a graduate of West Virginia University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Tim also has an MBA from Averett University.  Tim has prior charitable experience with Friends United for Need and the Planet Hollywood Ambassador Program.

Bryan McGinnis, Treasurer, is an attorney in the Washington, D. C. area, formerly with Davis Wright Tremaine Pillsbury Winthrop and Shaw Pittman in DC. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Stanford Law School. Bryan’s previous charitable experience includes representing various large non-profit organizations that own broadcast stations such as Educational Media Foundation, helping found The Open Door Clinic in Anchorage AK, and volunteering at the East Palo Alto Community Law Clinic in law school.

Rachel Peretz, Secretary, is Director of Marketing and Programs at the American Moving and Storage Association. She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky,  where she was one of the founders of WRFL – Radio Free Lexington. Prior to her association with SCYC, she was a board member at Temple House of Israel, where  she led Staunton, Virginia’s Jewish Film Festival for two years. Rachel is also a  grant writer, having won grant awards for her current association, homeless shelters, and arts organizations.

Meet our Board:

Leigh Atkins works for Merrill Lynch Corporation in Washington DC. She is a graduate of the University of Mississippi where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Leigh has prior charitable experience with Merrill LynchVolunteer Programs.

Katherine Gliwa is a Defense Science Study Group Program Administrator at the Institute for Defense Analyses. She is a graduate of the  University of South Carolina where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority.

Jill Calabria,  is the Membership Director at the American Sport Fishing Association. She is an experienced executive in both membership and business development.

Joseph Holland is an Information Specialist at Stars and Stripes. He is a U.S. Army Veteran of the Persian Gulf War. He is co-owner of Mic and Devo LLC.

John White, is a board member as of 2015.

Martin Yeager is a Partner at Land, Carroll & Blair PC in Alexandria, VA. He is a graduate of University of Connecticut, and has a J.D. from George Washington  University School of Law. Martin has previous experience as a volunteer for the Alexandria Chapter of the American Red Cross.
